While our Eczema Relief Systems can lead to significant improvement, eczema is a chronic and multi-factorial condition. Symptoms can be influenced by many factors, including climate and environmental exposures, diet, heavy metal exposure, or psychological stress. For this reason, it can be helpful to work with an integrative health care provider to address the many factors that may contribute to your eczema.

Most users experience a calm, soothing effect with consistent use of the lotion. However, it is important to note that the biotech actives ingredient in this product, such as comfrey or calendula, or preservative ingredients, sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate, may not be for everyone.

For those with more severely damaged skin, the lotion can penetrate too deeply, activating sensory nerves. Consider using water-free products (oil-based) to begin strengthening the skin barrier. After initial improvements, the lotion may be better tolerated.

It is also important to note that, while less common, those with eczema are at higher risk for allergies, which may include comfrey, calendula or preservatives. Consider testing the lotion by applying it to skin behind the ear unaffected by eczema. If this area becomes red, irritated, or itchy, this is a sign to discontinue use and use a water-free product. There is no set order in which we recommend beginning your products, but here are a few considerations:

Those who have more severe skin barrier disruption like red, itchy or burning patches or dry, rough, sensitive skin may want to start with supporting the proteins that make the skin barrier. Because some people with eczema have a genetic reason for filaggrin deficiency, ongoing l-histidine supplementation with the ANTU Skin Barrier Supplement may be needed to continue supporting filaggrin formation and skin barrier function. However, even those without a genetic mutation in filaggrin may benefit from ongoing l-histidine use. After 2-3 months of regular use at 4g/day, you may consider reducing the dose to 2/g while monitoring skin response. The goal is to find the lowest effective dose that maintains improvement. Long-term use (beyond 3-6 months) of any supplement should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
