SOOTHE ECZEMA WITHOUT STEROIDS BY REINFORCING SKIN INTEGRITY AND BOOSTING IMMUNITY WITH THE Skin Barrier Eczema Relief System (Teen: 13-18)

An impaired skin barrier allows particles from the external environment to penetrate the skin barrier and trigger inflammatory responses. In eczema, this inflammatory cascade is triggered by many factors, including allergens, irritants, and stress.  Inflammatory itch then triggers scratching, leading to further breakdown of the skin barrier. This cycles repeats itself in a loop of ever increasingly uncomfortable flares.

A strong skin barrier helps reduce itch and flares by:

  • stopping trans-epidermal water loss (parched skin) and not allowing allergens to penetrate (itch)
  • lowering inflammation/oxidative stress to reduce further skin and gut barrier (*and* collagen) degradation

The Skin Barrier dietary supplement helps:

  • produce more skin barrier proteins for structural support (filaggrin), and hydration (natural moisturization factor) with l-histidine.
  • address inflammation by scavenging free radicals produced by oxidative stress with anti-oxidants.

The Antü Skin Barrier Support Supplement contains a remarkable combination of ingredients to strengthen the skin barrier. The L-histidine alone has been shown to help heal damaged skin, but together with other anti-inflammatory and supportive botanicals make this a truly unique product. The lotion has also been studied in those with sensitive skin, and is packed with active botanicals designed for impaired skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these products clinically tested? +

All Codex Labs product undergo efficacy and/or IRB-clinical trials. Results from this testing is either displayed on our efficacy panel for cosmetic products or are published in medical journals for our OTC topicals and supplements.

Are these products sustainable? +

We strive to be sustainable by implementing environmentally-friendly practices such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and sourcing materials responsibly. We use renewable sugarcane-derived packaging, support fair labor standards, and focus on minimizing our carbon footprint through sustainable transportation and manufacturing processes. We are committed to protecting the Planet for future generations while maintaining ethical business practices.

Are these products internationally compliant? +

All of our products are formulated to be internationally compliant. However, packaging regulations differ from region to region so you may see a different product name or language on the tubes and cartons.

Are these products patented? +

We have patented our core plant-biotech complexes such as BiaComplex, AntuComplex, and ShaantComplex. We also apply for patents in our supplements. For example, our Shaant ClearSkin Probiotic formulation has already received a patent.

Is the supply chain controlled? +

We pay close attention to all aspects of our supply chain. In order to qualify for Vegan, Leaping Bunny, or EWG certifications, we must demonstrate certificates from our manufacturers or sometimes do the ingredients testing ourselves.

Is the manufacturing process certified? +

Yes. All our manufacturers are GMP and ISO 22716 compliant.

How long until I see results? +

In clinical studies, people saw major improvements after 8 weeks of consistent use. Some may see results sooner. While 100% of people experienced improvement in trials, for a few individuals, their skin may need additional support.

Why isn’t the effect immediate? +

The Skin Barrier Eczema Relief System uses two approaches to improve skin integrity for those who have a genetic deficiency in skin barrier protein production. First, the bioactive phytocomplex - or plant components - are antioxidants, helping to reduce damage caused by inflammation. Second, the L-histidine in the supplement promotes increased production of the skin barrier protein filaggrin. Filaggrin deficiency is common in those with eczema, and building up levels may take a few weeks.

How does the skin barrier supplement work?

How long can I take the product? +

The ingredients in the Skin Barrier Eczema Relief System have demonstrated safety in clinical trials, and no adverse events have been related to their use. Continued use can help to continually support the production of the skin barrier protein filaggrin. Yet long-term use (beyond 3-6 months) of any supplement should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

Why isn’t my eczema fully resolved? +

The Skin Barrier systems include a topical lotion and soap, as well as a supplement that helps to decrease inflammatory damage and build skin barrier proteins. Yet each person’s eczema is different, and flare-ups also depend on gut integrity.

While some may see full resolution with a skin barrier restoration-focused approach, others may need to address inflammation and dysbiosis in the gut - and some may need both. Both Gut Barrier and Skin Barrier Eczema Relief Systems include a topical lotion and soap to help promote healing, so a Skin Barrier Relief system can be completed with a Gut Barrier Support Set, while the Gut Barrier Relief System can be bolstered with a Skin Barrier supplement.

For example, if you have been using the skin barrier support system consistently for 8 or more weeks but your skin has plateaued or you are still getting the occasional flare, consider expanding your support. The BIA GutBuilder Prebiotic Supplement and BIA ClearSkin Synbiotic Supplement (Gut Barrier Support Set) can provide additional results because they promote a stronger gut barrier and the right bacteria to calm your allergic immune response - both common contributors to eczema flares.

While our Eczema Relief Systems can lead to significant improvement, eczema is a chronic and multi-factorial condition. Symptoms can be influenced by many factors, including climate and environmental exposures, diet, heavy metal exposure, or psychological stress. For this reason, it can be helpful to work with an integrative health care provider to address the many factors that may contribute to your eczema.

The Eczema Relief lotion makes my skin feel worse - should I stop using it? +

Most users experience a calm, soothing effect with consistent use of the lotion. However, it is important to note that the biotech actives ingredient in this product, such as comfrey or calendula, or preservative ingredients, sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate, may not be for everyone.

For those with more severely damaged skin, the lotion can penetrate too deeply, activating sensory nerves. Consider using water-free products (oil-based) to begin strengthening the skin barrier. After initial improvements, the lotion may be better tolerated.

It is also important to note that, while less common, those with eczema are at higher risk for allergies, which may include comfrey, calendula or preservatives. Consider testing the lotion by applying it to skin behind the ear unaffected by eczema. If this area becomes red, irritated, or itchy, this is a sign to discontinue use and use a water-free product. At any time while using, if you notice hives or worsening eczema, consult your healthcare provider.

If I’m introducing one product at a time, which should I start with? +

There is no set order in which we recommend beginning your products, but here are a few considerations:

  1. The BIA soap can be used next to prepare skin for improvement without drying or stripping of natural oils and skin microbes.
  2. The Eczema Relief Lotion can be started last.
  3. The Skin Barrier supplement can be introduced first to start rebuilding and fortifying the skin barrier.
Should I use the Skin Barrier or the Gut Barrier Eczema Relief System? +

Which approach is best for you may depend on the major driver of your symptoms, and for some, using both may be most ideal.

Those who have more severe skin barrier disruption like red, itchy or burning patches or dry, rough, sensitive skin may want to start with supporting the proteins that make the skin barrier. For others who also have GI symptoms such as bloating, gas, or discomfort, this may be a sign that restoring gut health may be the best place to start.

Wherever you start, both systems have the Eczema Relief Lotion and BIA Unscented soap, which help soothe itch and hydrate skin without stripping the body’s natural oils and microbiome. Plus, you can always add the ANTU Skin Barrier Support (part of the Skin Barrier Eczema Relief System) or the BIA ClearSkin Synbiotic Supplement and BIA ClearSkin Synbiotic Supplement (part of the Gut Barrier Eczema Relief System) products separately.

What should I do to maintain my results? +

Because eczema is a chronic condition, ongoing healthy skin routines are important to maintain the progress you’ve made. This includes continued support of the skin barrier with a topical like the BIA Eczema Relief Lotion, and a gentle, microbiome-friendly soap like the BIA Unscented soap.
Because some people with eczema have a genetic reason for filaggrin deficiency, ongoing l-histidine supplementation with the ANTU Skin Barrier Supplement may be needed to continue supporting filaggrin formation and skin barrier function. However, even those without a genetic mutation in filaggrin may benefit from ongoing l-histidine use. After 2-3 months of regular use at 4g/day, you may consider reducing the dose to 2/g while monitoring skin response. The goal is to find the lowest effective dose that maintains improvement. Long-term use (beyond 3-6 months) of any supplement should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
